Care Guide

Care Guide - Watches

A watch does more than tell the time. It often carries personal meaning and memories, which makes it a sentimental object that can last for years. With proper care, a watch can remain reliable and elegant and even be passed down through generations.

Watches are built to last, and keeping them in good condition only requires a few simple habits.

Cleaning your watch

Clean your watch regularly to keep it looking its best. Use a soft cloth to gently wipe the case and the strap, removing dust, fingerprints and everyday dirt.

From time to time, you may clean the watch using mild soap and water. Make sure to dry it carefully afterwards.

Servicing your watch

Regular servicing helps maintain the accuracy and longevity of your watch.

Mechanical watches should generally be serviced every two to three years. Quartz watches usually require servicing every three to four years.

A professional watchmaker can inspect the movement, lubricate internal components and ensure the watch continues to perform properly.

Avoid magnets

Keep your watch away from strong magnets. Magnetic fields can interfere with the movement and affect the accuracy of timekeeping.

Common sources of magnets include electronic devices, speakers and magnetic clasps.

Water resistance

Always check the water resistance of your watch before exposing it to water.

Most modern watches offer some level of water resistance, but it is best not to push your watch to its limits. Vintage watches may lose their water resistance over time as seals and gaskets naturally wear out.

Even if your watch is water resistant, the seals can dry out and lose effectiveness. If you regularly swim or shower with your watch, it is advisable to have the water resistance checked periodically.

If your watch has a leather strap, avoid getting it wet, as water can weaken the leather over time.

Protecting the crystal

The crystal protects the dial of your watch, so it is important to avoid impacts. Try to prevent the watch from hitting hard surfaces, which can cause scratches or damage.

Proper storage

When you are not wearing your watch, store it safely in its watch box. The original box is designed to protect the watch from dust, scratches and accidental damage.

Keeping the watch in its box also prevents it from rubbing against other objects.

Avoid sunlight and chemicals

Limit prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, as heat can shorten the battery life of quartz watches.

Avoid contact with chemicals such as cleaning products, perfumes and cosmetics. These substances can damage the case, the strap and other components of the watch.

If you apply perfume or cologne, allow it to dry before putting your watch on.

Professional care

Never attempt to open your watch yourself. Opening the case can expose the movement to dust and moisture.

For any internal maintenance or repairs, always rely on a professional watchmaker.
